Every Sunday morning 07:30am (Trail 3 & 4) and 08:30am (Trail 1 & 2), 4 trails, Week 1 trail 1, week 2 trail 2, and so on. Their distances are 6 miles (10k), 7.5 miles (12k), 10.8 miles (17.3k), and 16 miles (25.6k). They are all timed electronically, and every mile earns a point, which add up on the leaderboard for the April Awards Afternoon 2016.
Last winter, the BTRS Trail Series saw the runners cover nearly 4500 miles cumulatively across 57 runners, I hope we can exceed that distance this winter.
Your run times are important for each trail, as a faster time earns you an extra 5 points, however, a slower time means you are deducted 5 points. Also, with the BTRS Rule No.1, if any athletes are caught smiling, a point is deducted for that trail run. Subs are just £1, and there are always refreshments at the finish line. Often the BTRS marquee will be up for runners to keep warm and dry in, and get a nice mug of tea/coffee after their trail run.
Mountain bikers also earn points for covering the 4 trails, half points are awarded for those athletes that can’t run through injury, but can still mountain bike the course.
So, where and when are the 4 Trail Runs.
Trail #1 Stanmer Park, main entrance. This is a 6 mile (10k) clockwise loop through Stanmer Park, meeting at the main entrance car park 08:10am, ready to run 08:30am sharp. All athletes start and finish at the blue BTRS flags, where times are recorded.
Trail #2 Stanmer Park, main entrance. This is a 7.5 mile (12k) clockwise loop through Stanmer Park, meeting at the main entrance car park 08:10am, ready to run 08:30am sharp. All athletes start and finish at the blue BTRS flags, where times are recorded.
Trail #3 Black Rock Car Park, Madeira Drive, next to Brighton Marina. This is a 10.8 mile (17.3k) out and back from sea level up to Castle Hill nature reserve, and back to sea level. Please park at the Marina multi storey car park ( not the ASDA car park due to a time limit carrying an £80 theft) and walk through the tunnel to Black Rock. Starting slightly earlier than Trails 1 and 2, we meet at 07:10am ready to run at 07:30am sharp. All athletes start and finish at the blue BTRS flags, where your run times are recorded.
Trail #4 Black Rock Car Park, Madeira Drive, next to Brighton Marina. This is a 16 mile (25.6k) out and back from Black Rock along the cliff tops east bound to Newhaven Fort turn point, and back to the finish line at Black Rock. There is a 21k (half marathon) optional turn point at the only footbridge along the trail. Please meet at 07:10am at Black Rock, ready to run 07:30am sharp. Parking for this trail is better in the multi storey at Brighton Marina, not the ASDA superstore, as there is a time limit at the ASDA, but not the multi storey.
The BTRS Winter Trail Running Series has a few simple rules that I ask all athletes to follow, these are :-
1. No Smiling
2. Please be punctual
3. Run the trails, try not to jog
4. Push someone over in the mud if possible
5. Keep turning up and scoring points on the leaderboard
6. Always pack something warm and baggy to wear after your trail run
7. Refer to rule No.1
See everyone Sunday morning for Trail #2 (the trail series week 1, officially started last Sunday with Trail #1)
Best, as always
