Midweek Triathlon #7 Wednesday 2nd September
Hi guys, what a lovely vibe at last nights Midweek Tri ! The clock was certainly ticking as the sun was fading, leaving some of the athletes finishing their race in the twilight !
Firstly, a big big WELCOME to our newbies William Grumitt, Michael Barker, Tom Richardson, and Calum Thomas, I hope you found The Family welcoming, but you did not smile once ! (BTRS Rule No.1)
We had a very welcome return to Midweek Tri by Jonathan Girard, and on their ‘date night’ were James and Emily Leaver, who met at Midweek Tri in year 2, and are now married and have a gorgeous baby girl ( that’ll teach you to race on a Wednesday night)
As the race kicked off, Mr Eogan stood watchful at the shoreline, and Jo SUP’d the swim course helping athletes to steer the anti-clockwise triangle around the yellow buoys. The water was difficult to read last night, but there were no reports of strong currents or tiger sharks. ( we do have an unclaimed wetsuit that was left behind) Graeme and Simon fought it out for first male to swim exit, Marianne a strong first female out of the swim, closely followed into T1 by Clare Townsend. Collectively, the swim times were strong last night, Kate Hunt making massive progress over the summer months, now well within the pack at swim exit.
Thankfully the bike course dried out after the 5pm rains ! and backing up traffic at the East turn point had cleared, leaving athletes with a relatively clear course, especially with daylight fading during the second lap ! Remember when you’re racing the bike leg, any split time around the 40 minute mark is very strong, especially if you get caught at the top junction or find the climb out of the ovingdean roundabout particularly challenging. Newbies Michael Barker and William Grumitt both put in very strong times, and Michael road his hybrid.
With every cyclist back into T2 safely, the run conditions were near perfect. Flat, windless, and cooler evening temperatures kept every athlete moving along quite nicely, with some very impressive 5k times. Just as darkness enveloped our beautiful city, all athletes were safely across the finish line. That vibe, that buzz, that warm thread was in abundance amongst The Family (that’s what I wait for during every single event) With less than Caribbean weather, we’ve had a challenging Midweek Tri Series so far in 2015, but yesterday started to make up for it. It felt just like old times, I hope this will continue for the remaining 4 midweek events, taking us all the way up to our Awards Gala Dinner Saturday October 3rd.
A big WELL DONE to everyone that took part last night, I hope you are happy with your race times ( I have already sent everyone their individual split times, for your full race results click on the link below) THANKYOU to Jo for SUP ing, to Fiona, Chris Parker, Steve, Jody, Jetta, Flick, Tiger and Jemma for being eyes in transition smile emoticon

A truly lovely evening, as our English summer has already climbed in the attic for its suitcase and started looking for its passport, we have to try to make the most of the remaining warm evenings. Let’s keep going as long as we can, progressive people, pushing forwards, in this great city of ours, you’re all bloody fabulous !
Best, as always
